Drummer Jari Tuomi has played with e.g. Monica & Ami Aspelund, Ted Curson, Matti & Teppo, Annikki Tähti and Pepe Ahlqvist. The whole E-band has performed in a number of cabarets and played for e.g. the King of Sweden.

Baltic Sea Jazz Orchestra assembles top musicians from the Baltic Region
Baltic Sea Jazz Orchestra is assembled especially for the Turku Baltic Sea Days 2014 and consists of some of the top musicians of the Baltic Sea region. Jazz association Flame Jazz, operating in Turku since the European Capital of Culture year 2011, has compiled together an orchestra with musicians from three European Capitals of Culture: Turku and the two present ones Umeå and Riga.

The music of the Baltic Sea Jazz Orchestra is energetic jazz music arranged for three brass instruments and a rhythm section of four. Performances at the Turku Baltic Sea Days consist especially of compositions and arrangements with Baltic Sea theme, which are made by two jazz musicians from Turku, Severi Pyysalo (vibraphone) and Jussi Fredriksson (drums), also playing in the orchestra. The music combines big band elements in a creative way to the supple, improvisatory expression of a small band. In addition to Pyysalo and Fredriksson Baltic Sea Jazz Orchestra consists of Teemu Åkerblom (bass) from Turku, Peter Holmqvist (quitar) and Andreas Gidlund (saxophone) from Umeå and Dāvis Jurka (saxophone) and Konstantin Jemeljanovs (trumpet) from Riga. The newborn Baltic Sea Jazz Orchestra is a great example of fruitful cultural cooperation in the Baltic Sea Region – this time through high-class jazz music.

SYMBIOSIS: A new landmark sculpture by Stefan Lindfors for Saving the Sea
Turku is at the crossroads of the Baltic Sea and is keen to ensure that future generations can enjoy
it cleaner than today. A new – and very visible – testimony of this commitment will be the Symbiosis
sculpture by the internationally renowned designer Stefan Lindfors, whose masterpiece will
be unveiled in his former home town during the Turku Baltic Sea Days, on 3 June 2014 at
19.30 in front of the Forum Marinum Maritime Museum.

Symbiosis is not only an artistic masterpiece but has also a mobilizing function – to collect funds
to projects supporting the EUSBSR objective “Save the Sea” and especially the Archipelago Sea
in front of Turku, which many consider to be the finest archipelago in the world. Individuals and
organisations can demonstrate their commitment to the sea by buying a plate carrying their own
name – which will be attached to the sculpture – and the funds will be used to fund concrete water
protection projects. It is expected to bring at least 250 000 euros through the Protection Fund for
the Archipelago Sea, part of the Centrum Balticum Foundation.

Actions supportive of the objective “Save the Sea” enjoy broad support among inhabitants in Turku
and all Finland. The “Archipelago Square” in front of Forum Marinum, with some 4500 name
plates bought by citizens in 2011, proves this. Symbiosis will be a new testimony of this will.
